The Courtyard

Building the courtyard made me feel like I was almost finished with my project. It was always I the back of my mind that this would be done last. I decided to move it up on the schedule while I waited for my next shipment of parts from LEGO.

Green bricks were used to simulate the grass (and planter) areas with the exception of the border of the reflecting pool. Looking at pictures of the temple, the dirt can be seen between the flowers, so the decision was made to keep that look. Various other color bricks were used to fill in the areas under the sidewalk and reflecting pool.

After businesses began to open back up during the pandemic, I stopped by a used LEGO brick store to see what type of bricks they had there. I'd never been in a used brick store so I didn't know what to expect. I scored. They had a few large bricks that aren't made anymore...and I mean large. I was able to replace several bricks with just one brick which was nice.

A translucent blue 1x2 tile was used as the water of the reflecting pool. Light blue bricks were used under the tiles to give the pool a two-tone color.

It took a few times to get the stairs right. The stairs for the main entrance use wall panels (turned upside down) and the stairs for the sidewalk use stacked plates. I originally wanted to do the sidewalk steps the same as the main entry steps but because the stairs are open on two sides, it wasn't possible.
